2020 Toyota GR Supra: The Wait Was Well Worth It

After two long decades, the legendary Toyota Supra is making a triumphant return. That’s right: an all-new 2020 GR Supra recently debuted at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show, and it looks in-cred-i-ble. Having attracting legions of fans during the sport car’s ‘90s-era heyday, this century’s Supra promises to do the same and then some. It will be available in three trims — 3.0, 3.0 Premium, and an exclusive Launch Edition – though only 1,500 Launch Supra models will be built, which means you’d better jump on the Supra train now to get yours.

Here’s what to expect when the Toyota GR Supra lands on showroom floors.

Incredible performance

The new Supra will rocket driver and passenger from zero to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds, thanks to the turbocharged powerhouse under the hood. The 2020 Toyota Supra will feature a 335-horsepower 6-cylinder engine, married to an astonishingly smooth, 8-speed automatic transmission, with paddle shifters that put drivers in intimate communication with the road.

The engine is positioned as far back and as low as possible, creating a true 50:50 weight distribution that makes driving the GR Supra a dream. It’s adaptive suspension and rigid chassis give it true sports car dynamics. The incredible balance is enhanced by Supra’s standard 19-inch alloy wheels, with wider rear wheels that improve grip and performance.

Supra’s jaw-dropping performance has two driving modes, Normal and Sport, which allow the driver to choose their experience based their mood. Sport mode gives drivers tighter, more aggressive handling and even increases the exhaust volume. Even in normal mode, the 2020 Toyota Supra has an active differential that controls torque for even greater momentum and control.

The 2020 Toyota Supra is beautiful to behold

The 2020 Toyota Supra is a gorgeous machine, with supple, flowing lines that are built for speed. Its stunning good looks are based on the design of Toyota’s 1967 limited edition GT 2000, and the most recent Toyota Supra design from the ’90s. The result is a sleek, low-riding vehicle that looks as at home at the race track as it does on the city streets.

In front is a wide, performance grill designed to cool the powerful engine, and sleek, LED headlights. All of its features were engineered to be both functional and beautiful, including a roof that reduces drag while adding interior headroom, and a dramatic rear spoiler that reduces lift. Optimizing performance was the goal of Toyota engineers, and it was achieved in an incredibly athletic package.

The 2020 Toyota Supra has impressive specs in the technology department. Keyless entry, a rear camera, Bluetooth, and dual automatic climate control are all standard features. It has an intuitive display that is operated by a rotary dial to control the premium JBL sound system, Apple Car Play, and Navigation.

Designed for pulse-racing excitement

The brand new 2020 Toyota Supra was 21 years in the making. Designed by Toyota’s GAZOO Racing engineers, it has characteristics reaching far back into Toyota’s sports car history. Rear wheel drive, a sophisticated chassis, high-performance six-cylinder engine, and short wheelbase combine to make this vehicle a joy on the racetrack and gives drivers get an incredible thrill every time they get behind the wheel.

Inside, the 2020 Toyota Supra does not disappoint. The interior has all the modern amenities you expect while also remaining true to its GT roots. The instrument panel is all digital, with a display that consolidates all information into one, easy to read central dial. The driver-focused cockpit is slightly asymmetrical towards the driver, emphasizing the true purpose of this powerful vehicle. The re-imagined 2020 Toyota Supra promises to be one of the most thrilling experiences of the decade.
